Our goal with this first step is to understand who serves the home improvement category in a particular city. Step Two: Once we’ve compiled this comprehensive list of home service providers, we narrow the field using various tools including Hoovers.com, trade associations, and references from other “Homeowner Approved” companies. During this stage, we also “scrub” candidates against the Better Business Bureau database to assure that only top-rated companies move forward in the selection process. Step Three: This phase of qualification involves a face-to-face meeting with the business. To complete this step, one of our field research specialists travels to the company and conducts an in-depth interview with a top manager, while assessing the operation. If this meeting yields a positive result, the company will advance to the most important part of the research – homeowner evaluation. Step Four: The final two stages in our process involve the most important critic . . . homeowners just like you! Using a formal survey process, we obtain feedback directly from clients served by the company under review. If the business scores an “A,” and 9 out of 10 homeowners recommend them, the candidate is declared “Homeowner Approved” and has the option to be on our website and in the next printed edition of our Annual Report. Step Five: Making the grade once does not earn a lifetime designation. After becoming a member, companies are required to submit client lists quarterly so that we can continue to monitor service levels. If we conclude through our research that a business no longer meets our high customer satisfaction standards, we remove them from the “Homeowner Approved” program. This important step maintains the integrity of our product and provides homeowners with the most reliable source for home improvement information.
